Aligned Men helps men find and build alongside other men who share their mission and values. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

About this policy

This policy covers the Aligned Men app and the aligned.men website, which are run by Aligned Men (“Aligned”, “we”, “us”). It applies to members and to anyone who visits our website, including people who join our waitlist or open a card or invite link.

What we collect

What you give us:

Account details, such as your email address and a password or Google sign-in.
Your profile, such as your name, age, location, photos, bio and links.
Your answers to our questions, which may cover your work, goals, values and beliefs, and personality.
What you post and send, such as projects, posts, comments, events, group conversations and direct messages.
If you join our waitlist on the website: your email address, your answers to its questions, and the page or invite link you came from.

What we collect automatically:

Your device's location, only if you allow it.
Usage and device information, such as how you use the app, your device and notification settings, and an identifier used to send you notifications.
Server logs, such as IP address and request times, used to keep Aligned running and secure. Our website may estimate your city from your IP address.

What others tell us: if another member reports or blocks you, we keep a record of it, and you are not told. Our team may also add its own input about you.

What we work out: scores, summaries and other conclusions drawn from what you and others give us.

How we use it

To run Aligned: profiles, messaging, community spaces, events, notifications and email.
To suggest members, projects and posts that may suit you, and to work out alignment scores between members.
To generate text with AI for you and about you, such as summaries, questions and suggestions.
To keep members safe: reviewing reports, preventing abuse, enforcing our Terms of Service, and responding with care when an answer suggests you may be struggling.
To send you updates about Aligned if you join our waitlist.
To improve Aligned and to meet our legal obligations.

Matching and AI

Alignment scores and suggestions draw on what you tell us, including answers you keep private, your activity on Aligned, where you are, input from our team, and automated assessments. How they are worked out is our own: we don't publish it, and we change it over time. AI-written text can be wrong: you can edit your summaries, or tell us if something about you looks off.

Location

If you allow it, we use your device's location to set where you are, or you can choose a place yourself. Your location places you on the map, shows who and what is near you, and helps shape your suggestions and scores. Other members see the place name you choose and an approximate point on the map, never your exact coordinates. You can change or clear your location in the app at any time.

Sensitive information

Some answers, such as those about your faith or worldview, are sensitive. In the app you choose whether to give them, and you can change them at any time. They help shape your matches and scores, and they are never sold or used for advertising. Your faith answers are never shown to other members; some answers about your worldview may be summarised on your profile or for your matches, and the app says so when it asks. Our website's waitlist may also ask about faith.

What other members, and anyone with a link, can see

Your profile, what you post in shared spaces, your approximate place on the map, and your activity, such as when you joined, how active you are, who you follow and what you like.
More of your profile, to members who choose to see it (you aren't asked) and to some of your closest matches.
How well you fit with another member, which only that member sees, or with a project, which its owner sees, with an AI-written explanation.
Answers you keep private are never shown as you wrote them, but what they say may be reworded and shown to other members. Some other answers and updates may be summarised on your profile or shown to your matches. Your email address and exact coordinates are never shown.
Photos you post, other than in direct messages, are stored at web links that anyone with the link can open.
Blocking hides you from each other in most of the app, but some details, such as follows and links, stay visible.

Web cards.If you turn on your web card, or own a public project, that card can be opened by anyone with the link, including someone you have blocked, and you can switch it off in the app. A card shows only basic details, such as your name, photos, job title and city, never your answers, scores, age or exact location; a project's card shows its owner's name and photo, and other members only as a count. We ask search engines not to list a card unless you allow it. Whoever shares a card or invite link sees only counts, never who opened it or joined. Copies others have already made, such as link previews, can't be recalled.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. The app has no advertising tools; its map and notification components send their providers standard device and usage data.

Service providers that run Aligned for us, such as hosting and storage, notifications, maps and place search, email and website security. We share only what each needs to do its job for us.
Third-party AI providers, which process what a feature needs, such as your answers (including private ones) and profile, to generate text, suggestions and assessments for us. They don't train their models on it or keep it after answering.
Other members, and anyone with a card link, as described above.
Legal authorities, if the law requires it.

Cookies and tracking

We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, so we don't respond differently to Do Not Track signals. Our website uses browser storage and security checks only to run the site and prevent abuse.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information while your account exists, and a waitlist entry until you ask us to remove it. You can delete your account in the app's settings, which is immediate and permanent, or email privacy@aligned.men and we will delete it within 30 days. Most messages you sent stay with the people you sent them to, shown as from a deleted member. aligned.men/delete-accountexplains what is deleted and what stays. Copies in our providers' backups and logs expire on their own schedules.

Storage and security

Your information is stored and processed mainly in the United States. It is encrypted in transit and protected by access controls, and passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and never stored by us in readable form. Direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted. We don't use what they say, except to review a conversation that has been reported, and notifications about them say who wrote, never what was written. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't claim otherwise.

Your choices and rights

Edit your profile, answers and summaries (an edited summary stays as you wrote it), and choose whether your web card is on. You can hide your age from other members; it still shapes your matches.
Delete your posts, comments, messages and projects at any time.
Turn notifications off, stop sharing your device's location in your phone's settings, or unsubscribe from waitlist updates, at any time.
Email privacy@aligned.mento get a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it; we may need to confirm the request comes from you. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including to appeal if we turn down a request. We won't treat you differently for asking.

Age

You must be 18 or older to use Aligned Men. Personal web cards are for members 18 and over, and a project's card never shows an owner under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, email us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Aligned changes. If a change materially affects you, we will update the date above and let you know in the app or by email.
