Aligned Men
Privacy Policy
Last updated August 6, 2026
Aligned Men matches you with other men near you who are building toward something similar. Doing that well means holding some genuinely personal information — what you are working on, roughly where you are, and what you wrote in the intro survey. This page says exactly what we hold, who else touches it, and how to get rid of it.
1. What you give us
Everything in this section is entered by you, either when you sign up or later from your profile.
- Account. Your email address, and either a password or a Google account if you sign in with Google. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored by us in readable form.
- Profile. Your name, age, the city you list, a short bio, a profile photo, links to your own sites and social accounts, and the interests and values you pick.
- Intro survey. Your written answers about your work, the skills you bring and want, what you are building, and what you are aiming at, plus your answers to the trait questions.
- Dealbreakers. Private to you. They shape who you are shown, but they are never displayed to other members.
- What you post. Projects, posts, comments, join requests, and direct messages you send to other members.
2. What we collect automatically
- Location, only if you allow it. The app asks for location permission during signup. If you decline, you can type a city instead and everything else keeps working. See section 3 for exactly what is stored.
- A push notification identifier for your device, so we can send the notifications you have turned on.
- Ordinary server logs from our hosting providers, including IP address and timestamps, used to keep the service up and to block abuse.
We do not run any advertising or third-party product analytics SDK in the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
3. How location works
This is the part most worth reading closely, because the app is built around who is near you.
- Your precise coordinates are stored so we can compute distance. They are not readable by other members — the database blocks access to those columns for everyone but you.
- What other members see on the map is a deliberately offset point, shifted from your real position by roughly a mile in a random direction. It is generated once and is stable, so nobody can average repeated looks to recover the real one.
- The city label on your profile is whatever you chose to display.
- When you search for a place, the text you type is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn it into a location.
4. How we use it
- Matching. Your survey answers, traits, interests, values, dealbreakers, and distance are combined into an alignment score against other members.
- Your profile. Some of the summary text on your profile is drafted from your survey answers. You can edit it, and an edited section stays yours.
- Notifications you have enabled, and service email such as account confirmation.
- Safety and integrity — investigating reports, blocking abuse, and enforcing the Terms of Service.
5. AI processing
Matching is powered by a language model. Concretely, this means your intro survey answers and follow-up answers are sent to OpenAI, which returns a numeric representation used for matching, the drafted profile summaries, and the short explanation of why you and another member were matched.
Your answers are sent as part of an API request. They are not used to train OpenAI's models. No other member ever sees your raw survey answers — only the profile text and match reasons produced from them.
6. Who else processes your data
We use a small number of service providers. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.
- Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage. Holds essentially all app data.
- OpenAI — survey answers and profile text, as described above.
- OneSignal — push notification delivery, and the device identifier needed to reach your phone.
- Mapbox — map imagery. Renders the map you see.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) — converts place searches into coordinates.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Resend — sends email from the website waitlist.
- Cloudflare and Upstash — bot checks and rate limiting on the website, which briefly see your IP address.
7. What other members can see
Your name, age, city, photo, bio, profile summaries, interests, values, links, projects, and posts are visible to other members. Your offset map location is visible. Your email address, precise coordinates, raw survey answers, and dealbreakers are not.
8. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual pieces at any time from the app — posts, comments, projects, links, interests, and values.
There is no self-service account deletion in the app yet. To have your account and its data deleted, email privacy@aligned.men from the address on your account and we will delete it. Logging out ends your session but does not delete anything.
9. Your choices
- Turn notifications on or off under Settings → Notifications, or revoke the permission entirely in your phone's settings.
- Revoke location permission in your phone's settings at any time.
- Edit or delete your profile content from the app.
- Request a copy of your data, or its deletion, at privacy@aligned.men.
10. Age
Aligned Men is not for children. You must be at least 16 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a younger person has an account, email us and we will remove it.
11. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to the database is governed by row-level rules that decide, per record, which account may read it — the same mechanism that keeps precise coordinates and email addresses out of other members' reach. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date at the top and notify you in the app. Continuing to use Aligned Men after a change means you accept it.
